on the right is me now at about 200lbs (BMI: 29.5)
the reason I am making this post is because I am so sick of people feeling insecure about their body when it comes to your body mass index (BMI). the left picture of me is considered ‘normal” weight’ while the current picture of me is considered ‘overweight/almost obese’. Now if you ask me, I am no where near being obese whatsoever. I just see myself as average & I’m pretty comfortable with myself!
Anyway let’s get to the point! BMI is supposed to estimate the amount of body fat a person carries based on height and weight, and categorizes people based on what is appropriate for their size. BMI readings under 18.5 mean you are underweight, and could put on a few pounds. If you fall between 18.5 and 24.9, you’re considered normal, while a BMI of 30 or higher qualifies as overweight. But the thing is, BMI doesn’t tell you the difference between fat & muscle. So for example someone who is really toned may be have a bmi that’s considered ‘overweight’ when they really aren’t. What I’m trying to say is, don’t rely on a bmi calculator to tell you how ‘fit/healthy’ you are!!! They are not accurate!!! Don’t let a silly (& inaccurate) number tell you shit about your body. :)
